4 reasons why your family should focus on keeping your body and minds strong

You already know that we are the biggest advocates for adventure and travel. To us, being active with family and going on adventures is great fun, a time to bond, and most importantly, it also keeps your body strong, which has so many benefits. Did you know that we are also advocates of a strong mind, as well? In fact, there are many studies that say that there is a huge connection between the mind and body and we wholeheartedly agree with that. On top of that, if we did not have strong minds, we would not be able to conquer some of the things that we have done (active and non-active).
Because we have two young boys, we know the importance of teaching them early in life. There are so many people in this world that could do something, but limit themselves. I want our boys to know that they can do anything they put their minds to and that mindset starts at an early age. So, why should your family take on the same mindset and focus on keeping your mind and body strong? This is why:
It is easy to avoid doing something amazing because you are scared. Comfort zones limit people from reaching their full potential and having above and beyond experiences. This is why starting anything at an early age is perfect – you can train them to push themselves to the limit and strive for greatness. Comfort zones are all in the brain. An example of this is cliff jumping. You see how high the cliff is and how low the water is and a flip switches in your brain. You are terrified. But, what if you turned that flip back off? Train your kids to be limitless (to some extent), brave, and strong. If your body is strong, the only thing that could be holding you back is your mind. Train your mind and body for success and you will have a winning package.
Education is key
Nowadays, education rules the world. You need a degree to get basic jobs that will pay your bills and feed your family, so make sure you are feeding your children’s mind and fostering a sense of need and want when it comes to getting an education. Even if their goal is to travel the world and make a career out of that, they still need a way to pay the bills and getting an education is always a huge bonus that will never let you down. Getting a degree takes a lot of work, though and that is why we have continuously centered our lives around creating a strong mind and body, starting at a young age. Knowing more will never hurt you in life, but knowing too little could limit what you do.
While people can get through life without an education (we’ve seen it done many, many times in the past), and comfort zones are common, one hard fact to convince you that focusing on a strong mind and body is important is the fact that degenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s are becoming more common each day. In fact, according to alz.org, every 65 seconds, someone in the United States develops the disease and 5.7 million Americans are currently living with the disease. The scary statistic is that they estimate that number going up from 5.7 million to 14 million by 2050. They also say, “A number of studies indicate that maintaining strong social connections and keeping mentally active as we age might lower the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s. Experts are not certain about the reason for this association. It may be due to direct mechanisms through which social and mental stimulation strengthen connections between nerve cells in the brain.” If this is not a reason to teach your kids to keep their mind strong, I don’t know what else is.
Mind body connection
Last but not least, keeping your brain strong and healthy will result in a strong and healthy body. We, as parents, do everything that we possibly can to foster a healthy mind body connection, but sometimes our teachings are not enough. This is why there are programs like Empowered Learning Transformation Centers out there. They have a desire to work with athletes to expose all levels of talent during training, with a mission of changing the lives of athletes through programs in a healthy environment that allows them to maximize their potential by unlocking hidden powers within the mind body connection. “Empowered Learning Transformation Centers believes that “iron sharpens iron” and building an athlete and parent community will only enhance athletic abilities.” They focus on providing training in three specific areas of quicker reaction time, related to firing neural synapses, which is why it is so beneficial to athletes and adventurers.
